In any test construction, four decisions are commonly considered. Having made a decision as to the objectives to be assessed, and the items which embody the levels of ability and contexts in which they are examined, the third decision concerns the type of test to be constructed, whether objective or essay type, and lastly decision about the marking considered. In this essay, I shall discuss the third decision, that is by looking at the advantages and disadvantages of objective and essay type test.
